cause a smoke alarm to activate. This is referred to as a nuisance alarm.

A carbon monoxide (CO) alarm is to thank for saving the lives of a North Bay Family
earlier this month. Firefighters arrived to find the family waiting outside, already
feeling the effects of CO poisoning.

A local family is very fortunate that they obeyed an important pillar candle decorated
with and containing coffee beans was lit. The coffee beans then ignited and the

Unapproved Vent-Free Fireplaces Sold in Ontario
Recently the Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM) became aware of unapproved vent-free
fireplaces manufactured by ProCom that were being sold at local Liquidation World
stores. These heating appliances, which are typically fuelled by natural gas, operate
without a chimney, flue or vent.
